It Must Run In The Family ...

My daughter's husband left the garage door up when he left for work. Her neighbor across the street called her, but Beth didn't recognize the number so she didn't answer. The neighbor calls again and she still doesn't answer, so the neighbor calls the police. The next thing my daughter knows the police are banging on the door. It totally scared my grandson who is half dressed and had his shirt off, but a Santa hat on and Beth is still in her pj's because she is nursing her baby and hasn't actually got her day off to a start.

The police knock so loud that it scares Isaiah and he starts screaming from the top of his lungs. Beth goes to the door to see what's the matter and the police ask her if she is o.k. She's embarrassed, but glad the neighbor cares. She programed her number in the phone so that it will pop up when she calls - so the lady can check on her and she'll answer.

We laughed about it when she called me. What else can you do?

I had a similar experience a few month's ago. I have the habit of leaving my pajamas on and cleaning before taking my bath. Sometimes, it is up into the morning before I bath. Especially, if I am going to be leaving for the day. One morning, I got a loud bang on my front door. I was shocked to see that it was two sheriff detectives who were asking questions about someone that had lived in the neighborhood. Hopefully, from experience, they know that everyone doesn't keep the same schedule.

Maybe the old saying,... that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, applies!
An Old Saying...

An old saying that I just love is, "Wake up and smell the coffee!" I just love the smell of a freshly opened can of coffee because it is so rich and strong. Coffee is just a relaxing pleasurable drink. It warms you up when you are cold, it relaxes you at events and it wakes you up in the morning. There's nothing like a good cup of coffee by yourself or with family & friends.

So, why not... take time for a nice cup of coffee!
Human Looking Robot

Ingenious Invention, a human looking robot invented by a Canadian named Le Trung. This robot looks like a woman in her 20's. Actually, I think she sounds more like she's in her 30's. She can do tasks, recognized things and talk. It is an amazing invention that could make this guy a multimillionaire if he can market it right.

I know everyone thinks that we are being run out of the market place by technology, but since all workers aren't created equal literally. Because some aren't worth their pay, this could be a great breakthrough. These robots could be used to work for the handicap, elderly and be a companion for those who are lonely.

I see amazing possibilites for a human looking robot. Safety, by having a robot that can contact authorities if someone is being hurt or robbed, as well as a labor saver. I could sure use help in my garden. Wonder if she can pull weeds, hoe and harvest vegetables?

This is truely a remarkable invention in spite of all the nasty comments this guy is getting from people. Hopefully, we can learn more, and say it isn't what they say, I'm sure someone will make it possible soon.

Check it out here.

On A Cheery Note...

Isn't the fall weather great. It is starting to cool down and the leaves are starting to turn. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. It has such pretty red, orange, yellow, gold, green and brown colors.

I'm still canning and freezing, but that is winding down also. The garden is quite weedy because I haven't had time to tend to it, but it will be cut down and tilled in pretty soon. And, the crops are starting to be harvested. So, it's fall in full swing.

Today, we remember 9/11. It was a sad day for our country, but a vivid reminder that we should always be on the watch for terrorists. Pray for American and the families that lost loved ones on 9/11, their lives have been changed forever.

God Bless America!
Remembering The Sundays of Our Youth...

I love remembering the Sundays of our youth. Sunday worship in our best suits and dresses. Ladies with pretty hats and hankies. Men with 3 piece suits and sometimes a hat. We all piled in the car and went to Grandma & Grandpa's for Sunday dinner. Picnics, family reunions and Sunday gatherings in the park. Or, just a plain old Sunday nap after a quiet dinner at home.

Sunday has always been a day of worshiping our Lord, and then, resting and spending time with the family. If we can only get away from today's rush, rush and get back to Sunday basics.

Have a good Sabboth Day and keep it holy.
Coffee With Connie...

One thing that I love is coffee. That is why I named this blog Coffee With Connie. This blog is intended to just be a discussion of the current events and things of interest to the people that I have coffee with.

It is probably going to be a lot political in the next several weeks, but I will try to add human interest, special events that I am aware of and who knows, whatever I find interesting. Hey, it's my blog. :)

So, come and sit down, get your coffee and let's see what we can come up with in the coming weeks and months.

Have a good day... start it out with a good cup of coffee.

The Republican Convention Goes On....

I got to watch the Republican convention on a www.foxnews.com last night. It was so exciting!

I really enjoyed Fred Thompson's speech. George Bush gave a great speech, as usual. He may not be an eloquent speaker, but he speaks from the heart. I really like George and Laura Bush, even though, they are not popular with the news medias. I believe they are a great couple who are quite sincere. Laura did a great job as well as Cindy McCain.

One outstanding thing, I've gained a total respect for John McCain. I did not realize what this man has gone through for his country. He suffered greatly during the Vietnam War as a POW. Any guy, that can go through all that torture and remain true to his values and country deserves my vote. I truly believe, he'd put his country first and do what is best for it's citizens.
God Bless America!

Quite frankly, this is the first convention that I've ever watched and I'm not a young lady. In fact, I've been voting 42 yrs. I just haven't been into watching or listening to conventions. I guess this exciting new Sarah Palin nomination has inspired me to watch what is going on.
September....

School is back in session, gardening is winding down and the weather is changing. Pretty soon the beautiful fall colors will come. I always look forward to the beauty of fall. I think this will be one beautiful fall and very welcome.

I've been canning green beans, peaches, pears, and fruit cocktail. I have also frozen green beans, corn, peaches, and strawberries. We are just beginning to get the tomatoes & squash. Anyway, it has been a very busy, fun, and productive summer.
How Exciting... Palin for Vice President 2008 ...

I wasn't able to make the McCain rally in Dayton, Oh because of a very important program that I needed to attend, but I was so excited when I listened to the announcement and speeches at the rally on the radio. I spent and hour or so laughing and crying at such a remarkable decision...

Check this out...

What an awesome choice... what an awesome change... someone who's already a great leader, a real go-getter, and knows true family life and values. Sarah Palin loves our country, it's people and supports our servicemen.

Vote McCain Palin 2008 !
Putting Food Up For Winter

These are certainly busy times for those of us who are putting food up for winter. It reminds me of the scripture about the ants and how they prepare for winter. It is wise to consider that seasons do change and food costs change. Food is always higher out of season. In this day and age, we have to deal with high fuel costs which make everything higher. It is a sensible decision to can, dry and freeze your own food.

"Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, [and] gathereth her food in the harvest."
-Proverbs 6:6-8

Just a thought, and there is still time. So many things are available now, for example, peaches, apples and pears, plus so many vegetables like green beans, corn, tomatoes and squash etc.

The first year is the biggest expensse with canning because you have to buy the jars and the canning equipment. After the first year, the produce and lids will be your biggest expense, excluding time. Yes, time is money, but health for a life time is something to be considered too. You know what is going in your food. Look at all the preservatives you'll be missing. Now, that is something to think about!
08/08/08

Don't you just love those dates that end up like this. Today, would be a good day to bounce off the date and do something neat, or maybe something fun like a blog article on what I 8 (ate) on 08/08/08. :) See what you can come up with.

Just a fun thing!

Exciting New Educational Tools...

While searching the web this morning, I ran across this really great article on Human Remote Control Teaching which uses robots in the classroom. This is a great idea. Of course, this article takes place in England, but we Americans are starting to get on top of things with Web Classes, Clep Classes and mixed home and school computer class instruction.

I am all for using as much helpful programs, equipment and mixed instruction as possible. For one thing, everyone does learn different. We are not animals to be herded into a classroom and sit in front of a teacher for hours on end and then come out educated. Some students need a little more time to take in what they are learning, and then again, some students absorb things quickly. The quick learners are held back, and the slower learners are rushed beyond their abilities and struggle. It makes for a bad situation.

There are those fast learners that can benefit by this type freedom of learning, excel and graduate a lot sooner than they would otherwise. They can achieve a lot more because they are free to go forward. These are the go-getter's.

Those that need a little more time to absorb what they are studying, can excel slower, but better because they have been able to get the basics that they need and not be rushed onto new subject matter. They are still learning, but at a slower pace. This relieves undo pressure on these students.

Another great benefit, parents can be more involved in their childrens education. They can see what they are being taught and be a part of the study process for the computer programs that they do at home. For too long, public school teachers have had a free reign and talked about anything that they wanted without being held accountable to teach the given subject. This will eliminate a lot of unnecessary talk and get right down to the subject at hand. Real education, we are all for that.

The new technologies will save us educational dollars because we will need less teachers. The teachers, that we do have, will not have to have as much interaction and will be soley responsible to see that the students are doing their work. Teachers can be tutors for those who need help instead of carrying a heavy load with classroom teaching and preparation. Computers with only educational material on them, study guides and tests are greatly needed. This is a true educational breakthrough.

One further note, there will be students that this type of learning will not work for. Those students will need a greater degree of hands on teaching because of personal needs. Some students just do not know how to study and get things done. That is where early teaching of good study skills, following directions and obedience come into play. Hopefully, in time and with a little help, all students can become good learners.

Anyway, the future of education is getting exciting! Any high school or college classes that can be completed at home is a plus for the educational system. Any classes that can be computerized and streamline at school is, also, a plus for the educational system. This will work for both public and private education.
Get This...

Get this, Donald Trump says that the world has too much oil and that the oil producing countries are deliberately making the price high. The oil producing countries are deliberately causing a recession. This goes along with something that I read some time back in an Israeli newspaper.
They said that the Middle Eastern Countries were trying to ruin our economy on purpose. You know, I do believe both of these reports.

This high gas is just not reasonable and the way the congress is suppressing help for the consumer is not reasonable either.

Just my thoughts...
Higher Prices Are Coming...

Grab a cup of good hot coffee and let's talk...

It looks like higher prices are coming to our retail stores. High fuel prices are killing our economy and this democratically controlled congress is not willing to let us drill here, drill now, and pay less. They are deliberately trying to put us into recession and keep us beholding to foreign oil. That is wrong!

I don't know congressional reasoning, but it looks like they think that they know it all. They feel more sympathy for some bird, tree or plant in America than the families that live here. Worse, maybe just keeping their control of peoples lives. Animals have a way of adjusting to the nature around them. People have to live, work and play with the resources they have. I believe, most Americans are economical and care about the environment and preserving nature. They do it naturally because they like to live a safe, healthy lifestyle. Extremest cause problems for our people because they are self serving people. When Americans are denied a fair price for the gas and fuel they need to run their businesses and families, and when those that represent them will not let them do what makes common sense. It is time to get rid of those in Congress who are not for America, it's people and using it's own resources first. We need to drill here, drill now, and pay less. It just makes sense.

We are on the brink of new technology that will help give us options in the future. But now is now and we need cheap gas now. China has cheap gas and they are buying SUV's and large vehicles because they like them. We have the oil, we have the need for cheaper gas and we have the need for bigger vehicles. I care about my safety, so I won't be downsizing any time soon , in fact, my vehicle will be worn out by the time that I get rid of it. Unless, there is an American auto maker that will give us good high mileage options at a very reasonable price and a decent size to go with it.

Higher fuel prices is what is killing our economy. Congress knows this. My question is, "Why does this democratically controlled congress want us to pay higher fuel prices which causes higher food prices and higher retail prices? Just don't tell me it is for the environment because I don't believe it. What is their real reason? " Now that is something to seriously think about...
A New Search Engine...

Today, I read about a new search engine that has been started, that is called, Cuil. It is suppose to have the largest web-page index. It also searches for and ranks pages on their relevance and content.

I'd say they are worth giving a good try. Personally, I like to compare search engines all the time. Some of the search engines that I use are Dogpile, Altavista, Google and yahoo.

Up to now, Dogpile is the one that I use most because it uses combined search engines. But, I will Cuil a good try.

Grab A Cup of Coffee & Lets Talk...

I really don't really want to discuss politics, but grab a cup of coffee and lets talk about something that concerns us all. We the citizens of America who deserve the best. We work hard, pay our taxes and try to live like good citizens in the greatest country on earth.

We have a Democratic controlled congress with the lowest rating in American History that just plain flatly refuses to discuss and vote on letting us Drill here, Drill, now and Pay less for our gas. As Kay Baley Hutchison, R-Texas puts it in today's World Net Daily article, the Democrats that control congress are not permitting debate. This article explains a lot of why they don't want lower gas prices. Check the article, "Why Democrats Don't Want Lower Gas Prices."

We need lower gas prices for our economy, for our lives. It doesn't matter if we are the poorest or the richest citizen in American, we need lower gas prices. The sad part is, we have the resources, in fact, we have an abundant amount of resources. It isn't right that such a few people have so much power to effect our daily lives in this detrimental way.

For sure, the Democrats have shown that they are unfit to run this country. They are too power hungry, they haven't accomplished anything benificial and that is not good for the citizens of any country. It is something to take heed to in this upcoming election for president as well as the congress.
Reusable Shopping Bags

One of the greatest products on the market today are the reusable shopping bags. I just love mine! They cut down on the accumulation of plastic and paper bags. Not only do you feel like you are helping the environment & the economy, you are being trendy at the same time.

The best way to use the bags is to empty them and then put them in your automobile. They will be there when you need them. It is a good idea to have enough bags on hand to do the job.

After you buy a bag, fill it with your normal grocery purchase to get a general idea of how much your bag will hold and estimate how many you will need. They are really nice when it comes to taking in your purchases also, because the handles are a lot stronger than the plastic bag handles.

Many stores are selling them now. I purchased mine from Wal Mart for $1. I liked the black color because they don't show dirt as easy as the lighter colors that are available at other stores, and I wouldn't have to wash them as often. You can usually find them near the cash registers or as you enter the stores. They are becoming quite common.
Living On Less & Liking It More...

Sometimes we find it hard to live on less. It is even harder to live on less and like it more. But, we can do it by living on good Christian principles, taking care of the things that we have and living simply.

When we have the right perspective, life is simple. God first, family second and then friends. Our homes, the things we purchase and the things that we do will revolve around what is necessary to have happy, healthy relationships.

Money & things do not bring happiness. But, money and things are necessities in life. They are needed to take care of our families and sustain our way of life. Each individual and family has to make the decision, themselves, as to what they need.

Happiness is a thing of the heart. Many very poor families are happy. They love each other and they work & play together well. They have the bare necessities of life, but their love is the glue that keeps it all together.

Today's fad is green and simple. It is a fad and it will probably last for a time, but then the pendulum will swing back. But, if you take notice, those that call for green and simple, themselves, live far from green and far from simple. They talk the talk, but do not walk the walk. Whereas, lots of people have lived simple and conserved their whole lives. They have found that the simple things in life do meet their needs and that they can live on less and like it more. These people are not bogged down with extra upkeep and responsibility. It is a matter of choice.
At Least, We Know Where They Stand ...

I was reading an article on National Review Online about Tony Snow and how he lived what he talked. He was a happy and confident man that put faith, family and friends first. I always liked Tony Snow because he did walk the walk and did not say one thing and actually believe and do another.

I guess that is why I like George Bush. You know where he stands. You may not always agree with him, but when he says it, you'd better believe it because he is a man of his word. Someday, I think history will prove that George Bush was a great president. He was handed a disaster almost the minute that he took office. Now, because of his actions, the world knows he doesn't like our country being attacked and he will do what he needs to do to keep us safe. He has been successful.
Well, while I'm at it, I like Rush Limbaugh. I'm glad that he got another 8 yr. contract with lots of cash. He deserves it because he has done what not very many talk radio people can do. He has 20 million listeners and they are not all conservative, but they feel like they need to know what he has to say because he, too, means it. For sure, the regular media has sold out and heavily lean towards the Democratic party. Rush will tell it like it is, no matter what party you belong to. People just want to hear the truth and be educated and informed. Of course, he is a news commentator and he just gives his opinion of what the news has each day, but whether you like him or not his opinion matters. All I can say is yeah, go Rush!

Well, this morning, I got a little political. My final admonishment, don't believe what the politician's, noted people or the media has to say, until you've check them out. Check out how they've voted in the past, their lifestyle, their causes and whether or not they say something of value and stand behind it all of the time. You have to demand the truth to get the truth!

Just something to think about...
Mini Vacations

Have you had your summer vacation? With these high gas prices, try taking a mini vacation not so far from home. It gives you a chance to get away a few days and the saving that you make on gas can be used for an activity or an extra night at a motel.

It is the getting away from it all, a relief from work and stress. You will feel just as refreshed as you would have it you spent lots of money on a long trip across the country. Also, if you are conservative in your spending, you can save some money and take that longer trip that you are longing for in a year or two.

Just something to think about...

Scrapbooking Your Life

Have you ever thought of scrapbooking your life? It can be done in just two to three pages.

Past, present and even future plans can be scrapped. The following pictures are digital scrapbooked pages of my past and present life. The past picture pages contains both sets of grandparents, my parents, my baby picture and high school picture and my husbands high school picture. The present page contains my picture surrounded by my family pictures of my children, husband and parents. This is a fun project! It is also great for special events.

Of course, today is my birthday so this project that I did about 5 yrs. ago came to mind.
If My People will humble themselves and pray...

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV
God Bless America

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.
Hybrid Solar Oven

While surfing the Internet, I found a truly amazing discovery... a hybrid solar oven. It is hybrid because of the electric back up. This is one neat oven. Of course, you bake outside with it. It would definitely be a savings on your electric bill.

There are all solar ovens, but I would really suggest the electric back up because it cooks the food when the oven is not hot enough. It has a thermostat that keeps an even temperature. Also, it can be taken with you on cook outs even in areas where you can't have an open fire. I like it better than the regular sun oven because the sun oven doesn't have the back up electric. Both ovens run about the same price.

It is just one of the amazing products today. Of course, my grandmothers, mother and I have used the sun for drying fruit and vegetables and making sun tea, so it is just something old perfected into something new. It is an exciting new product!

Check out this link if you think that you would like this oven:

Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less.

Republican Conservative Call... Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less.

We are tired of the let's get along bipartisanship that is causing us to lose our party. We are a part of the old Republican party. We need to be free from dependence on foreign oil and support ourselves as much as we can. We need to take a stand for something and not blend in with those that do not stand for anything.

We need to do this for the American people, American business and for our independence. Let's have an American tea party and throw foreign oil overboard.

Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less.

Memorial Day

Today we honor our servicemen who work to keep us free. I want to dedicate the following song to them in memory of those who are gone, those who have served and those who are serving in our armed forces today. God Bless You All!

The link for the song, Some Gave All

We are on vacation this week!

Since we are on vacation this week, we hope that we can share some nice things that we have learned or experienced in next weeks blog entries!
Our Foundation of Hope

"For you have been my hope O sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth, from birth I have relied on you." Psalm 71:5-6
The Tankless Waterheater

I'm always interested in some new invention that runs better, cheaper or saves time. The new tankless water heaters are something else. They will save energy because you get hot water when you need it. Check out the following link if you think that you might want to consider one:
The Rinnai tankless water heater...http://foreverhotwater.com/

Our future is going to be a lot different and we are going to have to find ways to conserve energy and save money. It is a good policy for us to do, anyway. For sure, this present congress isn't going to help it's citizens. They are more interested in keeping us in debt to OPEK, no matter how much fuel oil we have. Wonder why we can buy oil from foreign markets that drill but we can't drill our own. Kinda looks like a double standard to me. If it is wrong here, why is it not wrong there? And, that's another story.
Technology, Pharmaceuticals and Our Brains

With all the technology from computers, ipods, video games etc. and with all the medical drugs that are being prescribed, I think we have a lot of people in this country that cannot think for themselves. Both of these things, among some other things can effect how peoples brains work and even change their brain thought patterns after a while. They are in bondage.

It just seems that crime and violence has sky rocked with the video games, violent movies and the sex industry is rampant with all the material and movies available. It has become an unsafe world in the name of freedom of speech. It's abuse of the term. These things do effect people or education doesn't work. Movies and videos are used in schools so why aren't they teaching agents outside of the schools? All I am saying is that these so called freedoms for sex and violence is making our society unsafe. It is not safe to let your children and grandchildren out of close supervision and it has even gotten unsafe for the little grandma's living alone.

I have also been concerned with the pushing of medical prescriptions by the pharmaceutical companies. All kinds of commercials on tv, in the paper and in magazines. People read about these drugs and then they go tell their doctors they need these drugs and the doctors prescribe them. Of course, doctors are doing a good job pushing the drugs themselves. I think we all know lots of people on prescription drugs because the doctors have prescribed them, they cause more problems and the doctors prescribes more to combat those problems and the people are hooked. They are also afraid to say no, because the doctors have told them that they must have them or they could be seriously ill. Somewhere, someone needs to stop this.

Both of these prevalent problems will effect how peoples brains perform. It is scary. What people watch and read can effect their brain and what they consume in the form of drugs can effect their brain. The effects of both on brain activity should be considered.

How did I get on this subject? Check out the following article that is somewhat close to my thoughts.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/technology/technology.html?in_article_id=565207&in_page_id=1965

All I am trying to say is, protect your brain. Put good productive things into your mind and do not use medications if they aren't very, very necessary. Don't get on the wrong track and live a long healthy life.
Conservatives Are Happier Than Liberals

A Very Interesting Article... conservatives are happier than liberals :http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,354424,00.html

Of course this is probably true because conservatives tend to be the average family or person that is not pushing the limits socially, in the work force or in their lifestyle. They enjoy living each day, doing the things that they need to do, being responsible for their obligations, socializing with their friends and family regularly and worshiping God. Satisfaction in living the good life in the stressed out world around them.
The National Day of Prayer

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
II Chronicles 7:14 KJV

God Bless America

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

A Beautiful Time of Year

Spring is a beautiful time of year. The grass is so green that it makes the flowers just stand out. Probably because we've spent a period of time with white snow and leafless trees. The beauty of spring is just outstanding! I love it!

The weather is up and down, but pretty soon it will level out and we will enjoy the daily warmth.

There will be lots of things to do like gardening, parties and outdoor fun. I do hope that you are able to enjoy the beautiful days.
Age Related Happiness...

While enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee on this nice rainy day, I was checking out the news. I ran across this article on a study of older Americans. It was a study on happiness or contentment. They really kind of go hand in hand. Contentment brings joy or happiness.

I think everyone is concerned about finances at any age, but as we get older, things aren't as important as family, friends and the people around us. We accept the death of those we love and those around us. We accept our own aches and pains. I think we just realize that we are just here for a time and we want to accomplish our purpose. We want to make a difference where we are planted.

The study that I was talking about earlier shows that this is somewhat true with the people that they have studied. It might be of interest to you. Check it out.

Something To Think About...

Grab a cup of coffee and let's chat a minute. I have something to think about...
A recent quote that I read -

"Need" now it means wanting someone else's money.
"Greed" now means wanting to keep your own money.
"Compassion" is when politicians arranges the transfer.

One Of My Greatest Pleasures

Gardening is one of the greatest pleasures that we can experience. Spring flowering plants are so beautiful right now. I enjoy strolling around the yard and looking at the daffodils, tulips, and crocus as they are just starting to bloom.

I look forward to other spring plants are starting to bud out and come through the ground. The pansies are in the garden centers for those who would like to add them to their flower beds this year. I have some seed and have a couple started in a cup that I got last week when my husband and I were traveling in North Carolina.

The garden centers are also carrying some early typical cold weather vegetables like cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. I even saw some blooming tomato plants. Now, if you purchase these be sure to cover them good in the cold temperature or leave them in pots and bring them in for cold night protection.

It is so refreshing to plan being in the garden again! I love the beauty and fun of flower and vegetable gardening.
Make A Little Extra Income

Do you garden? Did you ever think that you could make a little extra income in your spring garage sale by planting all the seeds that you buy and selling the plants that you do not use?

This years left over seeds are not wasted. At least, you should get enough money to buy next years seeds.

Something else that you could do is do a plant exchange with family and friends. That is a fun thing to do. Or, just give them to someone who would appreciate the plant!
Posting From North Carolina

There are lots of beautiful budding trees with pink and white blossoms.

It looks like red bud trees, magnolias and flowering crabs among a few are blooming. The beautiful forsenthia with its yellow buds stands outstanding with the green around it. So Pretty...

I just love to see spring with all it's beauty!
April Fools

This is a trick day, so be careful not to fall for anything! I'm going to have to watch out for my children and husband. I'm sure I'll get a line about something from them. :)

A Pleasant Surprise

Today, I got a pleasant surprise when I unzipped my mini greenhouse. Some of my tomatoes that I started in a pot, had a terrific tomato smell. They are getting their second set of leaves and the stems are starting to thicken up. Of course, they are only a couple inches tall, but I love the smell. I can hardly wait until they can be put in the ground in about six weeks.

I ran out of the frozen tomatoes sauce that I make a couple of weeks ago, so I must make sure that I put enough up this summer. :) There is nothing like having your own vegetables to use in your soups and other dishes.
Mouse Problems...

Do you have mouse problems? I read a neat little thing that I have never read before. Put peppermint oil on a cotton ball and put it in a drawer or where ever the mouse is visiting and the smell will keep it away from that area. Mice do not like the strong peppermint smell. How nifty!

Cheap and simple!

Of course, you still need to deal with getting rid of the mouse. Choose your favorite method of elimination. :) The cat may be the best one!
What Are you Going To Scrapbook About?

I'm getting in the scrapbooking mode again. I have been looking at the pictures that I want to start with. Also, I've been trying to decide what papers I want to use or if I need to design a paper which is what I do when I can't find the perfect paper.

Scrapbooking is a fun and inexpensive hobby. But, it can be made expensive, if you want to get really involved with lots of expensive embellishments and gadgets. Initially, try to do it the most inexpensive way possible because with your creativity you can really come up with some neat things.
The Do Not Call Registry

Something that you might want to consider doing if you are getting a lot of sales calls is joining the do not call registry. Of course, if you are lonely and want to talk to people do not do it. :) But, most of us get tired of the calls.

If you enter your name into drawings, free offers or for coupons, they will ask for your name and phone number. You might get calls that you have opted in for. At least you can tell them that you are on the registry and end the call.

This is the link if you do not have it ... https://www.donotcall.gov/ It takes about 31 days to show up on the registry. Do everything that they ask and it should help end some of your calls.
Spring Has Sprung!

What beautiful spring days we have been having! Easter Sunday was cold but nice and the last two days have been pretty nice. How's the old saying go..."In like a lamb and out like a lion or in like a lion out like a lamb." Hopefully, March, will go out like a lamb.

The longer it stays cold, the less chance we will have a freeze on the fruit tree blossoms. I can handle the cold when it is nice. We all know that nicer days are ahead.

Scrapbooking Projects

I am gathering supplies to do a few scrapbooking projects from my winter holidays and special events. I have some nice papers that I purchased over the winter especially over the Christmas season.

For me, setting aside one day just to work on scrapbooks works. That way I can gather my papers, pictures, flyers, embellishments and tools and get a lot done.

Christ Is Risen!
Good Friday

Today, as we commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus. Our hearts are turned to the savior who died for our sins and rose again that we might live.

Gardening Tools

Let's discuss gardening tools. I got my A.M. Leonard & Gardener's Edge garden catalogs this week. They are packed with tools and tool use ideas for the garden. They are always a welcome sight.

The Gardener's Edge has coupons on the inside front cover for the months of March to June. They are dated coupons and some run out at the end of April. If you think you would like to purchase some good quality tools on sale then order a catalog. There is a coupon for online purchases there as well as some of their products. The regular catalog has everything that they carry and it is nice also. They are my garden tool dream catalog.

Last year I bought the weed torch from them and I just love it. It uses a small propane tank that can easily be bought at Walmart, Kmart or any hardware store. The torch burns the weeds and they die. It is really neat for getting close to plants and killing the weed.

Check out A.M. Leonard at amleo.com because they have some really neat things.

Cottage Style

I picked up a Cottage Style magazine at the store. That happens to be the style that I like. I like the simplicity yet traditional cottage style decorating. It's not too formal and not too country...just kind of in the middle.

I really like eclectic things which covers a lot of the styles from Victorian, elegant, traditional, classic, cottage and country styles. It is nice to decorate with things from each of these categories on tablescapes. But, I'm not at all into contemporary because I think it is too hard and non-feeling.
Mid March

It's mid March already! We are starting to think of gardening. We have been buying garden seeds, potting soil and equipment. Before we know it, we will be outside. Now that is exciting!

One of the things that we can do while it is still too cold to actually work outside is to assess repairs that can be made outside and make a tenative schedule. This will work for things like buildings or fences that might need painted.

Check your flower beds and see if they will need more mulch. It would also be good to decide if they could use a nice cememt or resin ornament. While the flowers are not up and blooming gives them a different look. The flowers are the icing on the cake!

More snow!

Get yourself a nice hot cup of coffee and lets chat a little!

We are going to get another good snowfall ... maybe the last one of the year! They are calling for anywhere from 5" to 12" total accumulation here in Oh. Hey, it will be one beautiful sight and a snowfall that we can enjoy since it may be many months before we experience another one.

Spring is on the way! The Canadian geese are back. They left after the ice storm that we had, but came back yesterday. I don't know if they will stay for the snow storm or go farther south. We'll see.

Early this morning I heard the birds singing. What a welcome sound, but I didn't see the red robin. That is another event to look forward to, but today it's not to be.

On a different note. I was reading the Labor Departments Report and unemployment is at 4.8%. How the news media can call that bad news? That means that 95.2% of Americans are working. So, from now on when I give labor news, I am going to report the good side of this. There are 95.2% working Americans! How's that?

High taxation, unions and poor management whether it is government or business drives jobs away. But, then that is political and I don't want to go there too much. :)

Enjoy the snow if you're fortunate enough to be in the snow area, and have a great day!
Blessings

We have so many things to that God for. Health, our wonderful country, our right to have private as well as a public educational system, such a wide range of stores to shop from and most of all our freedom of worship.

Like I have mentioned before, I am one of those article title readers and I choose limited articles to read. And, they had better be on topic and worth it. Anyway, there was a picture with the following article link below, but also a short video. It totally almost brings you to tears to think that this woman is so happy with her circumstances. We see & hear so many people gripe about their clothing, their shapes and so many trivial things.

Check out this link for the article that I read this morning that is so cute. This little lady gave birth to a baby that is about 3/4 her size. Amazing!

Let's Get Political...
An open letter to the news medias

Let's get political, a little. You know, I think that we all know who the news media wants for President, both on the Republican and Democratic tickets. But, folks, I really am tired of it! I am tired of their down your throat pushy attitudes. Most of the news media don't live by the same standards that we do. Most of them do not go to church. They have an inordinate affection for Hollywood and all those messed up people and an inordinate affection for just as messed up politicians. They want to shove corrupt lifestyles down our throats on a daily basis and now they want to decide who we will have for president. Frankly, let me decide who to vote for and get out of my face.

Just give us the plain non-biased truth about these guys, let us look at their past voting records and what they believe and live by. Those of us who are smart enough to read, reason and vote will make our own decisions. Also, you may not know it, but we are smarter than you think, we know what you are up to and we do not like it, so back off!

I know it might not be your choice when I go to vote in the primary, but it will be mine! I will look at their past voting record, I will check on what they are doing now, and I will take into consideration the way they live and what they believe morally. I will also take into consideration what the media is trying to feed me and what their intentions are. I will vote... and I will vote for the best one before me whether I like everything he does or not.

One last note, I do not intend to make this a political blog during the upcoming election. For the most part, I get my news form the internet, and I read titles not articles. I have read so much trash and lies that I do not want to waste my precious time reading the medias concocted stories. There are legitimate sites that give the voting records of the candidates. I will go through my records and try to find them to post later this week. But, unless something really earth shattering happens, I'm not going to get too political on this blog. And, that is the rest of my story!
Scrapbooking Memories

Have you considered scrapbooking memories of an event for a gift? Bridal & baby showers, the birth of a baby, weddings, anniversaries, retirements, graduations, memorials and the list goes on...
I am making a memorial scrapbook of my sister-in-law. I have purchased the papers and book to make a scrapbook for my brother and his family. I am going to use the pictures that I used to made the powerpoint presentation of her life that was used at the viewing.

This is a scrapbook that I will be giving away so I want to put a lot of nice things in the scrapbook that will bring back fond memories of her when they look at it. I am planning on leaving pages at the end for them to add to the scrapbook. I purchased extra pages and protectors for the end of the scrapbook when I made my original purchase. It is always a good idea to purchase all the page protectors when you buy your original book because they may not be available later. Papers are pretty much standard and smaller pages can be custom cut from the larger papers.

Well, we are starting a new week with all kinds of new things in it. The weather here has been snowy. They were calling for snow flurries, but it has collected a little bit. It has been windy and cold, so not real nice to be out in. If it is cold with a little snow, I say let's have lots!!! That's fun!!!

Yesterday, it was up into the low 60's and it rained a lot in the afternoon and evening. I love rain, but I do not love lightning and high winds. I like the rain because it is peaceful if it is just the falling of rain on the roof, in fact, it makes me sleepy.

I have one of those noise makers with rain & rippling water and a couple other things on it that I use sometimes when I can't sleep. I used it more when my husband was trucking. I haven't used it in a long time, but the repetition of the rain does make me sleepy. It is considered to be a natural therapy for sleeplessnes. It's always handy if you can't get the real thing.

Well, that's about it for discussing recent weather. Enjoy the day, whatever the weather!
Valentines Day

Today, as we celebrate this day with the one that we love. I have this old, old poem to share with you that means so much. Take time to share your love with your loved one today!

How Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count The Ways…

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, ---I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! ---and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death

By Elizabeth Barrett Browning 1806-1861
You Are A Sweet Memory

You are a sweet memory,
We’re glad you passed our way.
God Bless & Keep your memory,
For those you loved each day.

For sure you will be missed
For you have gone away.
Thank you for the memories
Which live from day to day.

As time goes by and things change
God Bless & keep your memory
You sweet and kind ways
For memories never go away.

Eternity, Just A Breath Away

This blog is dedicated in memory, to my sister-in-law, Tracy Phillips, age 44 who died from extended health problems.

Death is a reminder of how short our time on this earth is and that eternity is just a breath away.

James 4:14, "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."

Tracy A. Phillips
1963-2008

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me,
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play,
Tasks left undone, must stay that way,
I found that place at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy,
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow,
My life's been full, I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lenghten it now with undue grief,
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.

Just for today, I will set my affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Just for today, I will not worry about what will happen tomorrow, but will trust that God will go before me into the unknown.

Just for today, I will endure anything that hurts or depresses me because believe God controls what happens to me.

Just for today, Iwill not dwell on my misfortunes. I will replace my negative thoughts with happy and hopeful thoughts.Just for today, I will choose to do some things I do not like doing, and I will do them cheerfully and with a happy spirit.

Just for today, I will make a conscious effort to love those who don't show love to me and be kind to those who do not appreciate me.

Just for today, I will be patient with those who irritate me and long suffering toward those who are selfish and inconsiderate.

Just for today, I will forgive all those who hurt me, and even forgive myself.Just for today, I will choose to be happy.

Check out these CVS deals! My daughter, Beth, and I went to CVS today with manufactures coupons and the CVS coupons. We did quite well with our purchases. We both got Extra Bucks Rewards on our CVS accounts towards our next purchase. We both saved quite a bit of money and did not buy things that we did not need. It is worth looking into if you have never used coupons or tried to accumulated extra store bucks.
Bring out the artist within you! If you would like to draw and have not had any education in drawing, you might want to check out this site. It is a simple site, but it does provide the simple education that would benefit a beginner.

Drawing and doodling are great past times. Drawing is so much fun and it is neat to see what you come up with. Who knows you might become a great artist!

Organization Tip...

Once again as we work on improving our lives we think of organization. Take time to work on making more time to spend with your family. This might take a little organization in your schedule by taking on less work or volunteer projects and just learning to say "no" when there is a greater need to spend time with the family.

Projects and jobs will always be there but, family will not.
"The Lord watches over the way of the righteous." Psalm 1:6

I thought that this was a good scriptural message to memorize for the New Year. Christians should do good business, be kind and honest in all their dealings. The Lord will be with us.
Garden Catalogs

Well, you can sure tell that a New Year is here because the garden catalogs are coming in the mail. I always look forward to this. You can almost count on the arrival of the garden catalogs like clock work right after Christmas, but you know, they are welcome.

Welcome to 2008!

I took off a much needed two week vacation from blogging this site. I am back with hopefully an interesting blog that will interest and inspire you. Hey, maybe at times I might get a little testy but... I don't think we'll talk too much about the political election. We'll see ...
